Bedford Park

A pioneer in garden village design was the celebrated Victorian / Edwardian architect Richard Norman Shaw.  His masterpiece; the Bedford Park estate in Chiswick has the most wonderful domestic architecture. Sir John Betjeman described Bedford Park “the most significant suburb built in the last century, probably in the western world”- here is a charming house and good example of his work in Queen Anne’s Grove in the centre of the estate.  I painted this early in the morning to capture the sunlight on the front and its warming effect on the gorgeous mellow orange brickwork.
